Connecting you to living and learning at Western New England College

We in the Division of Student Affairs recognize that student learning is the essence of our mission. Everything we do is, in some way, to support student learning and we work hard to ensure that this is a reality. We provide many programs and workshops that aid in these efforts.

One of the most visible aspects of our campus is the community atmosphere that is apparent everywhere. Each residence hall has its own sense of community and the various clubs, teams and organizations have their own as well. Most importantly, we all feel part of the larger Western New England College community. All of the Student Affairs staff members play an integral role at developing community among our students.

An important part of our community is that we respect our cultural differences. Every opportunity we have to do this helps us all to recognize and value each other’s backgrounds. It is essential that we learn to celebrate our differences, and that’s exactly what we do.

The Division of Student Affairs staff members are committed to helping each student to be the best that they can be and to develop their potential fully. Therefore, we take pride in helping students discover where exactly their interests and abilities lie. Then we help and encourage students to maximize their potential.

As we develop and implement programs and policies, we are very student centered in our approach. Being student centered means that students are almost always asked to give input and to be part of committees and task forces that are formed to develop policies, services, and programs. It also means that we constantly consider what will be best for students as we do our work.

Services and Resources We Offer

The Office of Student Activities and Leadership is the gateway to over 60 active clubs and organizations that students are invited to join. From groups that are affiliated with academics to those that reflect the interests of the student body, such activities are considered to be a complement to the more formal academic program. Co-curricular participation helps students learn valuable life skills and creates learning beyond the classroom experiences.

Whether you are from Massachusetts or Japan, the Office of Diversity Programs and Services promotes the understanding, appreciation, and celebration of differences. Students have the opportunity to participate in outreach activities that help them to understand the similarities as well as the unique qualities that makes us all one human race.

Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC) is one of the distinctive features of a Western New England College education. The concept of Learning Beyond the Classroom recognizes that learning can occur anytime, anywhere and not just within the classroom setting. Its Volunteer Connection Center matches student interest with organizations in need of volunteers.

The college years are a time of growth, change, and major transition for all students. During this time it is not uncommon for students experience personal, social, or educational concerns that they would like to discuss apart from family or friends. Counseling Services and Alcohol and Drug Education Services offer individual, couple, and family counseling, as well as crisis intervention, consultation, and referral in a supportive, confidential setting.

The Campus Ministry provides programming and spiritual counseling services for all students. The office consists of a full time Jewish Rabbi, a Catholic lay person,  and a Protestant Minister.

Residence Life offers students a wide variety of accommodations in college housing. Each area has its own distinct characteristics. Students can also participate in a living-learning environment and may earn "extra credit" towards housing placement.

The Athletics Department provides a varsity intercollegiate program for both men and women in a wide variety of sports. In addition, the College maintains a strong commitment to wellness, recreation, and intramural sports. The Wellness and Recreation department facilitates and coordinates seasonal intramural competitions and organizes a variety of recreational opportunities.

The Office of Health Services is directed by a full-time certified family nurse practitioner and staffed with nurse practitioners, a physician assistant, and a part-time physician. It is one of the most comprehensive facilities of its kind in the region and offers both medical services and educational programs to promote a healthy community.
