Why Should You Get Involved?

There are many co-curricular avenues for students to choose while attending college.  Studies have strengthened the observation that students who choose to participate in activities become more engaged in their college experience and are more successful adjusting to the transitions and changes that occur throughout their college years. There is a broad range of activities including the 60+ clubs and organizations along with varsity and intramural sports.  Many co-curricular activities compliment classroom learning and give students the hands on, practical experience that put theory into action!

cowboys & girlsStudents who choose not to become involved miss a valuable piece of their education.  We are fortunate to have many committed student leaders who design, plan and implement hundreds of activities on a yearly basis.  Our varsity teams add color and spirit to student life. The combination of all the co-curricular offerings add to the sense of community that is ever present and encouraged on campus.

The sense of community begins with the individual.  There will be many opportunities to learn from others and certainly to appreciate the different talents that all our students bring to campus.  Clubs can be the outlet for those special interests and talents.  Being an active audience member is as important as planning the program; the activities create the common experience for all.

You will notice that there is a strong emphasis on weekend programs.  Students’ schedules are packed during the week so the weekends provide a much needed break from the routine.  Weekends will begin with a FRIDAYS event each week which often includes concerts, game shows and comedians.  On Saturdays and Sundays students can participate in arts and crafts events, intramurals as well as Improv Comedy 2other activities such as off-campus recreational or cultural trips, just to give you a sampling.  You will find that the hours for the academic support areas such as the Computer or Writing Center or the Library provide extended hours on the weekends as well.  The Campus Center provides a relaxed and comfortable setting for programs throughout the weekends too.

Co-curricular involvement enhances the student life experience.  Students will find others with similar interests, new friends and opportunities to become the person they want to be.
