About the OIT Planning Office

Discussions in OIT on how to apply more rigorous planning and oversight on interdepartmental projects led to the initial concept for the OIT Planning Office. The idea to implement Project Management techniques and practices, and to establish the Planning Office was made known at an OIT staff meeting in January 2006. In this meeting it was announced that Susan McEvoy, Assistant Director, OIT would be responsible for Planning Office activities, while Anthony Mutti, Senior Web Developer would be assuming more responsibilities for oversight on Web Services projects.

The OIT Planning Office was established in order to provide a more efficient and practical means of requesting, evaluating, planning, and tracking projects that involve the use of technology.

The Planning Office is a collaborative effort in which the Managers of the Technical Support and Services Group, the Administrative Systems Group, the Educational Technology Group, and the Web Services Group, along with the Assistant Vice President of the Office of Information Technology, play a key role in establishing project priorities, planning project objectives, scheduling, monitoring, and supervising the project team.

The Project Process

Many project requests involve resource input that frequently exceeds the expectations of everyone involved. Accomplishing the goals of a project requires a partnership between the requesting department or departments and OIT.

To help you understand the resource input, and to understand the evaluation process, we have outlined the steps involved in requesting a new project.

I. When you have a new project, the process is to submit a project request form to the OIT Planning Office. If you would like to sit down and discuss your project before submitting the form, or if you have questions while completing the form, please feel free to send an email to amutti@wnec.edu, or call 782-1212.

II. Once your request is submitted it will be reviewed by the Planning Office. The Planning Office will use the stated criteria for evaluating new projects and will make every effort to ensure that each project is given due consideration in an objective fashion.

III. The Planning Office will maintain a project list that will be regularly reviewed and approved by members of Senior Staff. The project list will be posted on this site.
