Mechanical Engineers Compete in Pumpkin Smashing Contest

Before...
The Student Section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) held its first "Pumpkin Smashing" competition on October 27. Teams of Mechanical Engineering students designed and built mechanical pumpkin smashers which they then tested to determine the most destructive device. The various tools used included drop hammers, falling sledge hammers, spring loaded swing arms, and a catapult.

After
Two teams tied for first place including a team of seniors consisting of Doug Gray, Alec Bennet, Sem Deronnette, Eric Caron, and Julian Partyka and a team of juniors including Micah Bowen, Chase Vajcovec, Evan Butcher, Travis Hatch, and Justin Marsh.
