Eight Join Arts and Sciences Faculty

Western New England College President Dr. Anthony S. Caprio recently announced the appointments of eight new members of the faculty at the College's School of Arts and Sciences.
John W. Drawec, Esq., of Belchertown has been named Assistant Professor of Physical and Biological Sciences. A practicing attorney and Detective Lieutenant with the Massachusetts State Police, Drawec has taught courses in forensics and police administration at Western New England College and elsewhere. He is a graduate of Springfield Technical Community College, Western New England College, and Western New England College School of Law.
Heidi J. C. Ellis of Tolland, CT, has been named Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology. Ellis joins Western New England from Trinity College, where she served as Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science. She’s also taught at RPI-Hartford, the Hartford Graduate Center, the University of Connecticut, and Eastern Connecticut State University. She holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Connecticut.
Kathryn L. Lipson of Shrewsbury has been named Assistant Professor of Biology. Lipson has been serving as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Framingham State College and a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Diabetes Division in Worcester. She earned a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science for the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Raganath S. Murthy has been named Assistant Professor of Economics. Murthy has taught at Bucknell University, Millersville University, and Bloomsburg University, and served as a consultant to the World Bank. Murthy holes a B.A. and a M.A. from the University of Bombay, and a M.A. and Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University.
Burt A. Rosenman has been named as Assistant Professor of Biology. Rosenman comes to Western New England College from a postdoctoral fellowship at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy, where he also served as a lecturer. He’s also served as an instructor, lecturer, and teaching assistant at Kent State University, the University of Akron, Cuyahoga Community College, Youngstown State University, and Cleveland State University. Rosenman holds a B. A. from Wesleyan University and a M.A. and Ph.D. from Kent State University.
Angela L. Sauers has been named Assistant Professor of Chemistry. Sauers joins the College from Susquehanna University, where she served as an assistant professor and research mentor. She’s also worked as a visiting professor, postdoctoral fellow, and research mentor at the University of Georgia. She holds a B.S. from Juniata College and a M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University.
Shubha Tewari has been named Assistant Professor of Physics. Tewari most recently served as a visiting professor at the University of Massachusetts and Mount Holyoke College. She has worked as a consultant to Clark University, a laboratory instructor at Smith College, a lecturer and postdoctoral research fellow at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a visiting scientist at the Indian Institute of Science. She holds a B.Sc. from Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, a M.Sc. from the Indian Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Rachel H. Thompson of Shrewsbury has been named Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Master’s Program in Applied Behavior Analysis. Thompson has served as the Associate Director of Graduate Training and Research at the New England Center for Children and as an assistant professor at the University of Kansas, where she was the faculty supervisor of the Sunnyside Infant and Toddler Program. Thompson holds a B.A. from the University of Maryland, and a M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Florida.
