The student section of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at Western New England College held its first "Home Run Derby" on April 28. Students were instructed to design a device weighing 25 pounds or less that is capable of launching a baseball as far as possible using only mechanical energy. Designs ranged from Catapult type devices to slingshots with the winning design launching a baseball over 100 yards. The winning team included Chase Vajcovec, Evan Boucher, Ed Butcher, Travis Hatch, Micah Bowen, and Justin Marsh.
