After the Experience

After students have completed the LBC experience, they must write a 1000-word (minimum) reflection paper. This paper must address the student's learning from the experience. Do not write a paper of what was done, but rather tell the reader what was learned from the experience. In the paper students will need to:

  • Discuss the learning objectives identified on the LBC Application. Did you meet your learning objectives? Did you learn things you did not anticipate? Explain.
  • Relate what was learned through the experience to learning that was introduced in one or more of the courses you have taken.

If you are having trouble getting started, you can look at a Sample Paper Format  that the Office of Learning Beyond the Classroom has put together.

Once the paper is completed, it must be sent electronically (either by email or on Manhattan) to the student's Faculty/Staff Sponsor. That is the person that must review your paper to determine if it is acceptable. If it is acceptable, the Sponsor will notify the Office of Learning Beyond the Classroom and forward the paper to be saved in the archive. If the Sponsor feels the paper is unacceptable, it will be returned for revisions.

After the paper has been accepted by the Sponsor AND an electronic copy is on file in the Office of Learning Beyond the Classroom, the experience will be posted to your transcript.
