Before the Experience
Think through what you are proposing for an experience.
- Can you identify three to four specific learning objectives? What will you learn from the experience? (See examples below for help.)
- Can you connect these learning objectives to learning that was introduced in a specific course or courses?
If you can answer these questions, you should proceed with completing the Learning Beyond the Classroom Application. If you can not answer these questions, you need to consider other experiences for your requirement.
NOTE: There are several different categories that the LBC experiences can fall under and experiences must be significantly different from each other.
The Application Process
Complete and submit the Learning Beyond the Classroom Application before the experience ends. Applications must be approved prior to the completion of the experience. You must have at least 15 experience hours remaining or adequate documentation of hours completed previously. Applications are NOT accepted retroactively. When completing the application, you should refer to the Student Guide for more detailed information.
- Make sure you answer all of the questions, fill in an anticipated completion date, and obtain all of the required signatures. Incomplete applications are returned before being reviewed.
- Submit the application to the Office of Learning Beyond the Classroom (room 227 in the Campus Center).
- Return to the Office to pick up your copy of the application (usually available one week after the application was submitted).
