Welcome to the website for the Department of Learning Beyond the Classroom!

Contained on this site is information regarding Western New England College's Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC) requirement, as well as the Volunteer Connection Center (VCC). Whether you are a student, faculty member, administrator, or guest, you should be able to find here the resources and information you are seeking for the programs we offer.

The College has stated that "Learning Beyond the Classroom will be a significant element of every student's academic program and personal experience." In the Fall of 2003, Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC) was incorporated into the College's General Education Requirements and since then, the program has continued to develop and grow.

Aside from the Learning Beyond the Classroom requirement, the department also supports community service efforts at the College. The Volunteer Connection Center has a number of resources available. There are a wide variety of opportunities for students to impact the community, learn about important social issues, and develop personally.

Learning Beyond the Classroom provides students with the opportunity to apply the theories and concepts they learn in the classroom to authentic life situations. We want students to understand that their complete experience at the College is an educational one – and that their growth will be much more than one-dimensional. It is our belief and practice that learning opportunities beyond the classroom deepens students’ understanding of their chosen discipline, the field in which they will work, and the society in which they will live.

If you have any questions regarding the requirement, its implementation, or any of the programs offered through our department please use our contact information to get in touch with us. We look forward to hearing from you!
