The Office of Institutional Research was created by the College in 2002 in response to suggestions included in the Self Study conducted for re-accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and to meet a need for the enhanced use of information in campus planning and assessment. The Office was formally expanded to include planning in the summer of 2008.

In part, the NEASC Self Study concluded:

"In order for the College to gather data associated with the assessment efforts of its academic and non-academic units, the responsibility for institutional research efforts should be designated by the College."
