EMERGENCY PLANNING AND RESPONSE
Proper emergency planning prior to beginning work in the laboratory is an important practice. Understanding how to respond to likely laboratory accidents will likely prevent unnecessary chemical exposures and or injury or illness. Everyone working in the College laboratories must be aware of the following:
- While each laboratory at the College is arranged differently they all have clearly marked exit doors. Aisle ways and exits must be kept clear in order to ensure rapid and orderly evacuation.
- While each laboratory at the College is arranged differently they all contain emergency equipment. Individuals working in the larboratory must periodically check this equipment to ensure it is avialable and operable. Note that if any of this equipment is found defective or missing the Environmental, Safety and Recycling Manager should be contacted at X1634. Emergency equipment includes:
- The buildings that house the laboratories subject to this plan have specific evauation locations. These locations are called Emergency Assembly Points. Individuals working in the laboratories must familiarize themselves with these Assembly points. Fire alarm pull stations are located at the exit doors to the buildings. Individuals should also be prepared to pull the alarm in the event of an evacuation if not already sounding.
