CHEMICALS ON CAMPUS

All kinds of chemicals are used on the Western New England College Campus to produce specific results.  Whether used to clean a floor or used to protect wood, chemical products are manufactured to aid professionals in accomplishing certain tasks.  Unfortunately, as part of their design, some of these chemicals are innately hazardous and may pose certain risk during use.  Note that Department Managers at the College work diligently to substitute less hazardous products/chemicals proven to produce the same result as a more hazardous counterpart.  While this has been successful in many instances, substitutions do not always make sense.  Therefore, to inform and protect College employees, a Hazard Communication Program is in place.  This Hazard Communication program has been formulated to meet the requirements of OSHA's Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1200.

An important part of the College Hazard Communication Program is communication.  While many of the chemicals on this campus are "non-hazardous" (according to the definitions established by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)) many do have either physcial or health hazards. The below posters better describe some of the hazards associated with chemicals used on Campus.  Knowledge concerning potential chemical hazards will go along way in preventing unnecessary exposures during routine use.

1.   CHEMICAL HEALTH HAZARDS

2.    POISONOUS OR TOXIC CHEMICALS

3.    FLAMMABLE CHEMICALS
