Access Control Procedures
The Circulation Security Staff must insure that only authorized persons are allowed use of these buildings. All Western New England College students, faculty, and staff have access to the facilities by use of their identification / access cards. Valid college identification is required for access to the buildings during normal hours of operation.
Student Assistants
Several student assistants are assigned to the Circulation Security Staff and are an integral part of the overall Circulation Security operation. They are trained to conduct access control procedures, operate c.c.t.v. equipment, conduct building inspection patrols, and supervise door and alarm panels. Student Assistants are, at all times, supervised by a member of the Circulation Security Staff. Student Assistants are also assigned to assist at all athletic and special events that are held in the Alumni Healthful Living Center. Their interactions with students and employees of the college have played a key role in providing a sense of cooperation between the Circulation Security Staff and the college community.
Safety Devices
There are various alarm systems in place that are designed to maximize the protection of everyone in the buildings, and the buildings themselves. To insure that all equipment is working properly, regular inspections are conducted by members of the staff. If any alarm is found to be faulty, the college's Facilities Management is immediately notified. The Director of Public Safety is also notified by the submission of a security report. The Simplex fire alarm panels, being the most vital alarm systems in the buildings, are checked hourly for normal operation.
Emergency Medical Response
All members of the Circulation Security Staff are certified in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First-Responder. As part of the Department of Public Safety, the Circulation Security Staff is in direct communication with the Campus Police via two-way radio. In the event of any medical emergency, the Circulation Security personnel will notify the Campus Police and request their assistance.
Special Events
During the course of the year, there are numerous functions hosted at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. Specific security measures for each event are set in place to prevent problems and cope with any emergencies that may arise. When there is an event with an anticipated large attendance, the Circulation Security Staff is augmented by the Campus Police and the Student Patrol. The Director of Public Safety is ultimately in charge of all personnel, and works with the Circulation Security Coordinator and the event sponsor to ensure that a safe and enjoyable environment is maintained.
