The Department of Public Safety currently maintains time card access control of the major campus buildings, the residence halls, and the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The access control system is housed at the Department of Public Safety and consists of a network of three computer terminals. This system allows the department to set access privileges to any access identification card, control the electronic locks which open and secure buildings, and monitor the activity of the users of the system. |

The access cards that are issued to every member of the college community, also double as their official college identification card. The access control computer system has been equipped with hardware and software to allow computer generated identification cards to be produced on site. The picture and all personal information is pemanently attached to the access card. Attempts to alter the ID card can be easily identified. The card is then coded so that the holder can access the appropriate areas needed during their time on the college campus. |

During the summer months, the incomming freshman class attends orientation programs on campus. During these sessions, the new freshmen's photographs are takne and stored in computer memory. These pictures, along with informaiton received from the Admissions Office, are then produced into identification/access cards. The cards are issued to the new freshmen upon their arrival to the college each fall. The ID card you are issued as a freshman will be valid as long as you are an active student at Western New England College. You do not need a new ID card every year, so do not throw your ID card away over the summer. In the fall, simply bring your ID card to the Department of Public Safety and the expiration date will be validated. |

Access cards will not open areas where the card holder does not have authorization. (If a student lives in one residence hall, his or her access card will not open another residence hall.) The lending of access cards to individuals not authorized for access into a particular building is strictly prohibited. Disciplinary action may result in the misuse or alteration of official college identification. Lost, Stolen, and Broken Cards
Only one access card is permitted to each member of the college community. If an access card is lost, stolen, or broken, please report to the Department of Public Safety in person. As a safety precaution, lost and stolen access cards are "Embargoed" and will not allow entry into any building. Access cards will be replaced when the loss or defective card is reported. There is a charge of $20.00 for the replacement of lost, stolen, and maliciously damaged access cards. This fee is billed to the College member's account. Cards that have not been maliciously damaged, but are simply defective, are replaced free of charge. |
