The Cooperating Colleges of Greater Springfield
CAMPUS RESOURCES GUIDE
Shared Vision. Shared Resources.
The Cooperating Colleges of Greater Springfield (CCGS) was formed in 1971 by the presidents of each college of the charter institutions. The member colleges include: American International College, Bay Path College, Elms College, Holyoke Community College, Springfield College, Springfield Technical Community College, Western New England College, and Westfield State College. The goal of this collaboration is to enhance the educational experience of our students through the use of cooperative programs and services, including cross-registration, student-faculty inter-college library privileges, joint student activities, and academic cooperation. These eight institutions of higher education include both two-year and four-year colleges, public and private institutions. Students can earn associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degrees as well as certificates of advanced education and doctorates in certain areas. There are also noncredit and skill-based courses, programs of study ranging from the professional to the liberal arts, and special programs for elementary and secondary school students. The Cooperating Colleges of Greater Springfield take pride in their tradition of working together. For more than 30 years, the colleges have shared resources, ideas, and talent to benefit the Springfield area. Industry leaders, business owners, and those seeking education have all benefited from this collaboration.
History of CCGS
Officially chartered in 1982, CCGS is led by the eight college presidents, who believe that combining resources and sharing programs:
- Enriches the educational offerings, cultural events, and social activities available at each college;
- Widens the variety of programs and fields of study available to students at each institution; and
- Serves as a valuable economic and educational resource to the Greater Springfield area.
Today, administrators from many departments from each campus meet to create programs. Each semester the consortium shares academic coursework, allowing students from one college to take classes at another. All colleges share library resources, and jointly promote cultural events, concerts, and sporting events available to all CCGS institution students and Pioneer Valley community members.
