General Business Curriculum
The General Business major provides a curriculum that will give you a well-rounded understanding of all aspects of business. General Business students have more options in class selection than students in the other majors in the School of Business. You will take classes that touch on the basic forms of business.
New 2009! General Business students can now focus their studies through three concentrations: Entrepreneurship, International Business, and Sustainability Management.
Through the Entrepreneurship concentration, students learn how to finance, develop, and run their own business. In courses such as Venture Feasibility they will learn the techniques to transform a business idea into a venture concept. While the "Mind Your Own Business" Practicum provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in running a small business at the College.
The International Business concentration offers insight into the impact of globalization through such courses as Business and the Global Environment and Global Law. The option includes a study abroad component through a short-term international travel practicum.
The emerging field of Sustainability Management is helping people improve the quality of life in their communities. Students choosing this concentration will learn how to help organizations navigate the social, financial, and environmental challenges impacting 21st century businesses.
Faculty

Their prime focus is teaching and mentoring you, and our students find their teachers are always easy to approach and available for one-to-one consultation. A diverse group of professionals, our faculty members hold advanced degrees from some of the finest colleges and universities. These individuals bring a combination of business experience and academic training. All bring active regional, national, and international consulting experience to the classroom. All are involved in research, publish in national journals, and present their work at conferences.

Outlook: The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) predicts excellent opportunities in business in the coming years. By 2016, the BLS forecasts 37 percent job growth in the financial analyst field (147,000 positions), 11 percent job growth for loan officers (43,000 positions), and six percent job growth for insurance underwriters (6,600 positions).
