Spring 2009 Student Exhibition
This spring the Student Exhibition, entitled “CREATIVITY ABOUNDS AT WNEC!”, was held from Sunday, April 19, through Graduation Day, Saturday, May 16, 2009. The Art Gallery was open on Friday, May 15, to coincide with the Baccalaureate Reception held in the Rock Court Mall at the Campus Center so that students and seniors could share their artwork with family and friends.
There were several new features included in this year’s exhibition for the first time to enhance student participation and to add to the campus community’s enjoyment of the event.
- The exhibition was juried this year with three of the art faculty participating in choosing the highest quality pieces from all the artwork submitted. Out of approximately 100 artworks submitted, 60 pieces were chosen with a total of 38 students represented.
- The exhibition was open to ALL students who participated in studio art courses during the 2008-2009 academic year. Those GRADUATING SENIORS who were juried into the show were highlighted so as to bring attention to their artistic accomplishments during their last semester at WNEC.
- There was a catered Opening Reception on Sunday, April 19th.
- There were three Awards and four Honorable Mentions presented by Dr. Caprio during the Opening Reception. These prizes included specially selected and art-related gifts and gift cards.
- A number of artworks not picked up by students at the end of the exhibition have been designated as donations to the college so that there can now be student artwork displayed in some of the classroom buildings.
- The exhibition was on display for 28 days to make it as important as the two other gallery exhibitions held during the Spring semester.
