09reportofgiving150gifThe Western New England College Report of Giving 2008-2009 is now available exclusively online. The document provides interesting data and inspiring examples of how donors’ gifts have enabled the College to excel.

“The fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2009 will be remembered as one in which Western New England made major strides in building for its future,” according to President Anthony S. Caprio. “We adopted our new 10-year Strategic Plan for the period 2009-2018; we began building Southwood Residence Hall; we launched our first doctoral program: the Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis; and we also proceeded with plans for a new 125,000-square-foot academic building now under construction. This facility will house our programs in Pharmacy, the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, and Physicis), and Psychology.”

Alumni Share Career Advice with Communication Classes

miculcy1120gifTwo recent graduates visited with current students to discuss some helpful hints and pointers they used to begin their career. On November 2, Kristin Miculcy ’09 (pictured) spoke to students enrolled in Business Communication about the steps she took to become the director of marketing at the Reminder Publications, which publishes six community newspapers in the area. She also discussed the various roles that she plays in her career and brought samples of her work.

In addition to hearing from Miculcy about the recent graduate’s perspective of job hunting and interviewing, students received the interviewer’s perspective as Barbara Perry, vice president of sales and marketing at the Reminder Publications, spoke on the experience that she had interviewing Miculcy.

New York, New Jersey Alumni Receptions a Big Hit

capriony09gifAt separate, well-attended receptions on November 11 and 12, alumni and friends in the New York and New Jersey area were offered the opportunity to network, meet with deans and administrators, and hear the latest news about the College from President Anthony S. Caprio. They also enjoyed a multimedia presentation on recent developments on campus.

President Caprio updated attendees on what has been happening at the College since the 2008 conclusion of the Transformations comprehensive campaign, which raised $23 million. View the photo album/slide shows of the New York reception and the New Jersey reception.

Building on Our 24-hour Live Construction Camera

constructioncamgifHaven’t been to campus lately and want to stay updated on the new academic building construction? Check out the 24-hour live camera pointed at the site. It updates your view every 10 seconds!

This is the largest and most ambitious building project in the College’s 90-year history. The 126,000 square foot academic building will house the College’s programs in pharmacy, biology, chemistry, physics, and psychology. Plans call for state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories, and offices spread over four floors, providing a highly functional, attractive learning environment. Construction on the D’Amour Library in 1983


[View our online historic photo archives.] The construction on the new academic building prompted us to run a photo of the steel skeleton of the D’Amour Library. The finished product, of course, is diagonal to the foundation of the College’s latest building project. By 1982, the College had grown to such a degree that the library in Churchill Hall was constantly overloaded with students. Built at the cost of $4.5 million, the new library was dedicated on September 27, 1983. In the 26 years since that day, the building has changed dramatically. (Read More)

The 1965 Commencement Ceremony

[View our online historic photo archives.] In 1965, 212 degrees were awarded at the College’s Commencement ceremony in the Springfield Municipal Auditorium, now known as Symphony Hall. Look at the larger version of this photo to see the Western New England College banner on the balcony. This historic building, built in 1912, hosted Western New England College Commencement exercises from 1961 until 1970, when the event was moved to the campus green between Emerson and Herman Halls.
