Here’s your step-by-step guide to the Admissions Process for Freshman, Transfer, and International Students

When to Apply for Admission

Western New England College has a "rolling" admissions policy, not a set admissions deadline, which gives students greater flexibility in applying. The College urges prospective students to apply as early as possible. The College begins accepting students for the fall semester after first term senior high school grades are available. Applications continue to be reviewed until the class is filled. Fall semester applications will be processed on a space-available basis after February 15 for freshmen, and after July 1 for transfer students.

Acceptance of students enrolling midyear for the January semester begins in early fall.

Requirements

Persons admitted as regular, degree-seeking candidates must have graduated from an approved secondary school or have obtained a General Equivalency Diploma (GED). In addition, they must have successfully completed minimum preparatory units for specific courses of study in the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Business, and Engineering. See requirements for additional information.

How to Apply - Freshman and Transfer Students

If you are a graduating high school senior or student transferring from a community/junior college or four-year institution, you must comply with the following admissions criteria:

  • Complete an application. To obtain an application from the Office of Admissions, download an application here or apply online*. You may also complete the Universal College Application - if you elect to use this method of application, you must also submit an additional supplement. If you apply online or via the Universal Common Application, please ensure that your application fee, transcripts, test scores, and recommendation are sent by mail.
  • Return the completed form with a nonrefundable $50 application fee ($40 if application is submitted online).
  • Freshman students must submit their official high school transcript(s) and an official transcript of first term senior grades as soon as they are available. Transfer students must include all official college transcripts, as well as transcripts from any secondary school(s) previously attended.
  • All applicants must submit their SAT I or ACT test scores. The test scores requirement can be waived if the applicant has successfully completed more than twenty-four college credits or has been out of school for more than five years.
  • Freshman students must submit an academic recommendation from a teacher or, preferably, their guidance counselor. Transfer students must also submit an academic recommendation, preferably from a college professor. Engineering applicants should submit a letter from a math or science teacher.

Receiving Transfer Credit

The amount of transfer credit allowed is based upon work completed at previous institutions. Normally, credit is allowed for each course which is equivalent to a corresponding course at Western New England College, provided the earned grade is C- or above. Customarily, a student who has received an associate’s degree in an approved program from an accredited college, and who is accepted for admission, will be granted junior status.

Any available information regarding the comparability of the secondary school or college courses to the U.S. system should also be provided.
