On April 17th and 18th, 2004 over 200 people gathered on the campus of Western New England College to share the latest biomedical engineering research, to interchange ideas, to network, and to have a good time.

The registrants represented over 40 universities, and over 25 companies and research organizations and came from all over the United States with several registrants from Asia and Europe.  Dr. Paula Ravin's discussion of deep brain stimulation was very interesting as she brought a patient with her to provide a unique point of view as to how this technology can improve the quality of life.  At the Basketball Hall of Fame Mr. Bob Rich gave an excellent overview of the product design process and the roles that engineering plays in bringing sports products to market.  He even brought a few shoes with him for some lucky attendees whose names were drawn from a hat.  The evening ended with a networking event with BEACON, MassMEDIC, and BETA and a tour of the Hall of Fame including one-on-one virtual reality basketball with NBA and WNBA stars.

Thank you to all those who attended, chaired sessions, and judged the student paper competition.

Please join us next year for the 31st Annual Northeast Bioengineering Conference on April 2 & 3, 2005.  The Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ will be hosting.
